Day One of Safari Guide of the Year saw all the guests, judges, sponsors and of course finalists descend upon Kapama Private Game Reserve, our incredible Host Sponsor for this year's competition. After the meeting and greeting of both old friends and new friends alike we were tantalised with a delectable dining experience at Kapama River Lodge's premiere Xitsumbeni Restaurant. We were spoiled with an epic safari kit from our apparel sponsor, Ruggedwear and once we had filled ourselves to the point of bursting we scuttled back to our luxury rooms to freshen up. Once all dressed in our Ruggedwear best we ventured out on safari with Kapama's exceptional guiding team, and met at sunset to announce the finalists assessment schedule for the week. As the last glowing embers of the day faded so the embers of the fire were stoked, we gathered for dinner and the first official event of the competition, storytelling with Finalist, Pioneer Moyo, of Bushwise Field Guides.

Day 3 brought action, adventure, and a whole lot of laughter! 🌄 The morning kicked off with: 🦶 Cameron leading the Guided Bushwalk 🚗 Matthew taking the wheel for the Guided Game Drive 📸 Jason stepping behind the lens on the Guided Photographic Drive Guests not on finalist activities enjoyed an immersive Kariega game drive — complete with lions and other unforgettable sightings! 🎯 After lunch, it was time for the most explosive event of the week — Advanced Rifle Handling (ARH). Our finalists gave it their best shot (literally), and a few of our brave guests and sponsors joined in on the action too! 🍲 Then came the infamous SGOTY Team Building Challenge — the most competitive event of the week. Teams made up of finalists, guests, judges, sponsors, organisers and Kariega staff competed in a culinary and hospitality challenge: Who could make the best potjie, set the finest dinner table, and perform a unique bush-inspired song?
